Title:  Bin collection on Saturday and Sunday.


Brief Summary:  Bins will be collected on Sunday rather than Boxing Day.



What is it trying to achieve? (intended aims and outcomes)

This change is to allow staff Boxing day off. It is intended to reduce the risk associated with staff attending work after Christmas day festivities. It is intended to mitigate difficulties getting staff to carry out bin collection services on Boxing day. 

 

Who owns and who implements each element of the function, service, policy, procedure, project, strategy, plan or guidance?

This is a borough-wide service. This change will only impact collections on these days. Head of Service, Operations Manager, Supervisors involved in implementing change.

  • NI waste management plan - being renewed.
  • Recycling targets at 55%, household recycling rate by 2025.
  • Waste and contaminated land order.
  • Equality scheme, Complaints policy, Corporate strategy.

In terms of religion or religion brought up in the 2011 Census indicates that our resident’s religious beliefs are comparable to those in Northern Ireland in that there are 2 predominant groupings ie Roman Catholic and Protestant.  However we also have a number of individuals (5.64%) who do not practice a specific religion or who do not wish to be grouped into a specific religion.  In addition we have a small number of individuals who practice other religions.

Sunday collection for some may be an issue.  If individuals call we can organise an alternative collection.
