Diversity Park needs your vote in Best Park competition

The Diversity Park in Portstewart needs your support as it competes for the title of the UK’s Best Park.
Its mix of play equipment for able bodied children, as well as those with disabilities and sensory needs, has helped it secure a nomination in the prestigious competition organised annually by green space charity Fields in Trust.
The flagship project in the grounds of Flowerfield Arts Centre was completed by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council in 2016.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Sean Bateson said: “The Diversity Park is a unique facility which allows all children to play together within a welcoming and inclusive environment. It has proved hugely popular with local families and visitors since it first opened and this nomination is richly deserved. I hope that with the public’s support we can ensure the Diversity Park receives the recognition it deserves.”
Among the park’s most notable pieces of play equipment is a swing specially designed for wheelchair users and an aero glider which also has wheelchair capacity.
Fields in Trust Chief Executive Helen Griffiths said: “Our parks and green spaces are a vital part of community infrastructure. We know that they provide benefits to the physical health, mental wellbeing and community connections for people that use them, so we are delighted to see a record number of nominations for the UK’s Best Park award and it is encouraging to see so many people celebrating how much they love their local park. Fields in Trust is committed to protecting these valuable and much-loved parks and green spaces for future generations to enjoy.’

The competition remains open until 12noon on Monday 19th August.
