Council launch its 2015 Summer Recreation Programme

Thursday 21st May 2015 Council launch its 2015 Summer Recreation Programme Layout 1 PARENTS and children can now look forward to a fun packed summer with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s annual Summer Recreation Programme. Commencing on 6th July until 14th August, this year’s programme offers a wider choice than ever before with seventy eight courses covering thirty four different activities. Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Sports Development & Physical Recreation Manager, Roger Downey who leads the programme commented, “Council’s Sports Development Team is committed to offering as wide a range of quality activities for young people as possible and we believe this year’s Summer Recreation Programme will exceed expectations. “Council has introduced new activities and adapted some of the more traditional courses to appeal to a wider audience. Each course is designed to increase the participant’s skill level, but more importantly the emphasis is on having lots of FUN! “The sports courses cost £30.00 per person per course and once again this year our popular ‘Discount Ticket’ is back priced at £24 per person per course, this price is available on all courses to holders of a current ‘Access To Leisure’ card and anyone enrolling a minimum of three courses per household (must be booked at same time). Enrolment commences at Coleraine Leisure Centre on Saturday 6th June from 8:15am for all sports courses. As always, these courses are in popular demand, so get there early! All interested parties will only be permitted to enroll one family on the initial day of enrolment.” The 2015 Summer Recreation Programme offers a range of choices for kids including: cheerleading; horse riding; mountain biking; girls ‘allowed’ fun activity camp; dinghy sailing, sit-on-top kayaking & paddle boarding. Popular favourite’s such as: tennis; trampolining; hockey; and golf, will also be included in this year’s programme. New to the programme is Beach Volleyball, Bowls, Hockey, Netball, Special Olympics Multi-sports Camp for juniors and Zumba Kids. Due to popular demand, swimming courses comprise of ten lessons content (levels 1 – 6) in the main pool and each minnows level in the minor pool are in keeping with the centre’s regular lessons. The programme includes an incentive to young budding footballers with participants on all soccer school courses receiving a FREE FOOTBALL! For those children unable to join the sporting activities at Coleraine Leisure Centre, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Summer Recreation Programme will also be bringing activities to local communities. Ten summer schemes have been organised throughout the Borough this year. Full information will be available from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Leisure Services Department. Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council in conjunction with the Northern Trust is running a SALT (Sport and Leisure Together) scheme for young people with physical disabilities. The scheme is based in Coleraine Leisure Centre and will run from Monday 20th until Friday 24th July. Activities include arts and crafts, sports hall athletics, swimming, canoeing, indoor games, day trips and much more.
