Atlantic Sessions is Coming …Rising Stars on the Crest of a Wave!
Tue, October 13, 2015
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Atlantic Sessions Music Festival returns to the Borough and runs from 12th until 15th November in Portrush, Portstewart and Portballintrae. Over the course of the four days, it will present an eclectic mix of home grown music, and the best part?.. Most of the 40 plus gigs are free! Laid back music sessions can be enjoyed in various coffee shops and other intimate venues, with some raucous, foot-stomping performances to enjoy later in the evening in the bars and entertainment venues. Vicky Stevenson, Tourism & Marketing Officer at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council commented, ‘The emphasis of ‘Atlantic Sessions’ is to showcase original music and provide singer/songwriters with a platform to showcase their talents. There is good variety of music from unplugged acoustic sessions to full-on indie-folk, Americana, cool electro sounds and everything else in between. Headlining this year’s event and hot off the back of their UK tour with Hozier, is ‘Wyvern Lingo*, who will play at Flowerfield Arts Centre on Friday 13th November. Plus the very wonderful Mr ‘Paddy Casey* will perform a special concert on the Sunday evening to close the four day festival.’ Other artists include; the multi award winner, Kaz Hawkins; PORTS; Hannah McPhillimy*; Mandy Bingham*; Jessica Doherty; Rosborough; Scorpion Jack; Son of the Hound and The Vals, who toured with Paul Weller earlier this year! The popular ‘Sunday Brunch Session’, an intimate in-the-round session with a collection of the featured artists, will be hosted by BBC Radio Ulster’s Ralph McLean. New to the programme this year are two movie showings, presented by ‘Portrush Film Theatre’ at the ‘Playhouse Cinema’, Portrush. Screenings will include ‘Amy (15)’, the controversial documentary about Amy Winehouse and the award winning film ‘Whiplash (15)’. *Tickets for the headline events are available from Flowerfield Arts Centre, telephone 028 7083 1400 or for more information, visit www.atlanticsessions.com.
