Participants of Roe Valleys Arts and Cultural Centre’s ‘August Children’s Month’ can enjoy a variety of events including the enchantment of a traditional outdoor marionette theatre on Saturday 15th August when ‘Moon and Sixpence Puppet Theatre’ present ‘Red Riding Hood’ in two free shows at 12.00noon and 1.30pm. Featuring the traditional fairy tale characters, the marionette puppets perform with music and sound effects in Drumceatt Square. Children aged 7 to 12 years can participate in a pre-screening workshop of ‘Dragons and Dinosaurs’ from 11.00am-1.30pm, where they’ll make their own wild creatures to take to the screening. Running from 31st July until 22nd August, the centre will be jam packed with fantastic fun events for all the family! There are magical puppet theatres, fabulous film screenings and great workshops to fire the imagination. The award-winning Scottish-based ‘Clydebuilt Theatre’ will launch the event on Friday 31st July at 2.00pm with a fun adaptation of the classic story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’. Faithful to the original stories, ‘Clydebuilt’ create a spectacular interactive family show with wonderful props and stunning hand-made puppets. The centre is inviting everyone to come along in their finest fancy dress to a screening of family all-time classic ‘The Wizard of Oz’ on Saturday 1st August at 2.00pm. Kids aged 7 to 11 years old can sign up for a pre-screening Wizard workshop from 11.00am until 1.30pm, making their own magic wands and spellbinding accessories in time for the film. Connemara based Tegolin Tales present a wonderful performance and interactive workshop of two stories, Tom O’Connor’s Cat followed by Finn MacCool and the Dark Pool, on Wednesday 19th August at 11.00am and 2.00pm for children aged 4 to 12 years old.
