Ballycastle Museum reopens for the summer season

Wed, April 10, 2019

Ballycastle Museum has officially reopened for the summer season.

The core opening hours are extended due to dedicated volunteers from The Friends of Ballycastle Museum.

A special celebration event to mark the reopening took place on Saturday 6th April with music from Comhaltas members and Ciaran Mulholland.

Home to a wonderful collection of pieces, the museum gives visitors an opportunity to explore the arts and crafts revival in UIster whilst discovering more about the Irish Home Industries Workshop. Alongside this, the beautiful Taise Banner from the first Glens Feis will also be on display.

This year, the museum welcomes a variety of new pieces including a porridge pot which is thought to be from either the workhouse or Fairhead Hospital along with a painting of Gerard McKinley from Sharpe & Mc Kinley’s Shop.

The Museum will be open in April, May, June and September on Fridays and Saturdays 10am-5pm and 2pm-5pm on Sundays. During July and August it will be open Monday – Saturday 10am-5pm and 2pm-5pm on Sundays.
