Mon, May 08, 2017

A golf-themed competition is taking place for businesses and community organisations across the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council area.

Organised by Causeway Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and Tourism NI, it’s all part of the build up to the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open which takes place in Portstewart from July 5th – 9th.

Windows, shop fronts or even entire buildings can be dressed for the occasion as a unique way of welcoming golf fans to Portstewart and the wider area.

With over 100,000 visitors expected to attend, the event is a fantastic opportunity to showcase all aspects of the area.

The tournament is set to be the biggest to date, with a huge prize fund of $7m and a not-to-be-missed fan experience outside of the ropes.

Annette Deighan from Causeway Chamber of Commerce said: "The Irish Open is a fantastic opportunity for the Borough. Along with hundreds of thousands of visitors coming to the area, we will also benefit from global television coverage. This competition is a way to engage the business community in the entire borough and we are looking forward to seeing just how creative they can be."

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Maura Hickey, said: "We want to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all visitors coming here for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. I would encourage as many businesses, and community organisations as possible to take part in this initiative, and share in this historic event.”

As an added incentive, there are a range fantastic prizes on offer, as Eddie Rowan, Tourism NI Events Manager explains: "You now have a chance to put your business at the heart of one of Northern Ireland’s biggest ever sporting celebrations.  Get ready by dressing your business/community organisation for the occasion.  The overall winner of the best dressed window competition will receive two VIP tickets to the tournament, compliments of Dubai Duty Free.  Runners up will receive prizes very kindly donated by European Tour and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.  We will provide bunting, posters and a window sticker with the Titans Golf logo to help you on your way with your golf/destination themed display but we want people to be as creative as they can. Our online toolkit, available from https://tourismni.com/Grow-Your-Business/golf/irish-open-2017/ can help you be even more creative!  This is a borough wide competition so from the Glens of Antrim right across to Greysteel, please get involved!”

Anyone interested in taking part should register their interest before Friday 26th May by emailing info@causewaychamber.com.
