Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Darryl WilsonCouncillor Darryl Wilson, father of two and husband of 17 years to wife, Emma is now the new and first Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. Taking on his new role as Deputy Mayor, Darryl is both humbled and delighted to have been chosen for the role and optimistic about his year ahead. On the new Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Darryl Wilson commented, “It means a new beginning for local government. In the past as a ratepayer, a small business owner and a resident, I felt a disconnection with my local Council and for this reason I wanted to get involved to help bridge that gap. I want Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council to provide a first class service at the point of need for each and every one of our residents.” He continued, “The Borough is home to the Vauxhall International North West 200, Northern Ireland’s premier sporting event. As well as this we have world class golfing facilities which we hope will host the Open Golf tournament in the near future and our World Heritage Site, The Giant’s Causeway which is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the world. “These are only a few examples of why hundreds of thousands of people will visit our Borough each year and we must tap into this invaluable resource, encouraging visitors to explore all other areas within the Borough and, in turn, boost local business.” Darryl, who lives in Ballymoney with his family, worked for a local site investigation company as a Senior Manager for over 10 years and, in more recent years, has started his own mobile catering business. He is a born again Christian who’s faith is very important to him, his place of worship being St James Presbyterian Church. In his spare time he enjoys coastal fishing at some of the excellent locations the north coast provides. In his role as Deputy Mayor, Darryl looks forward to his term with optimism. He also looks forward to meeting and supporting local residents, local groups, teams and organisations by expanding the boundaries he normally works within to interact with those throughout the Borough. Alongside this, his aspiration for his term is to promote the Borough in its entirety to encourage the growth and success of the Causeway Coast and Glens. “My aim as Deputy Mayor is to enable wellbeing and prosperity for all of our residents. I encourage everyone to embrace this new beginning. Together we can shape and mold a Borough which we can all buy into, benefit from and be proud of.”
