Council’s Destination Team has hosted a group of industry stakeholders on a familiarisation trip to experience just some of the wellness tourism products Causeway Coast and Glens has to offer.

The group included representatives from both Tourism Ireland and Tourism Northern Ireland, as well as The National Trust and hotel groups from throughout Northern Ireland.

Wellness tourism, a niche sector, is growing in popularity with visitors and locals alike, and Council is keen to showcase the options available.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan said: “I am delighted to welcome tourism partners and stakeholders to the Borough, to experience our wellness tourism products first hand.

“Wellness tourism has become an important motivator for today’s discerning visitors as they seek to integrate health and wellness experiences into their holiday plans.

“Thank you to our Destination Team for continuing to showcase the fantastic tourism providers of the Borough.”

Kerrie McGonigle, Council’s Destination Manager added: “More and more we see health and wellness becoming an integral part of travel plans, as visitors seek to get away from stressful lives and re-connect with nature and with family and friends.”

“Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, strives to work closely with the tourism and hospitality sector and other key partners to deliver on what makes our area special, unique and a great place to visit.”

Kerrie highlighted that this type of tourism has become a key income generator for the local economy, explaining that “it is essential that collectively we continue to invest in our product in order to be competitive in both the domestic and international marketplace, and capitalise on opportunities for growth”.

During their visit to the Causeway Coast and Glens, the group had the opportunity to meet local businesses owners from Mussenden Sea Salt, Hot Box Sea Sauna, Ella Mor Adventures, North Coast Alpacas and Freedive Northern Ireland.

Council’s Destination Manager, Kerrie McGonigle concluded by saying: “We are pleased that this familiarisation trip has helped provide key industry stakeholders with new and specific knowledge about our area.”
