Wed, June 10, 2015

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is encouraging everyone throughout the Borough to ‘get on your bike’ for ‘Bike Week 2015’ which will take place from Saturday 13th to Sunday 21st June. This year, Council is supporting people of all ages and levels of fitness to get active and come together to enjoy the picturesque scenery of the borough. Programmes are planned to run in both the Ballymoney and Coleraine areas. Mark Strong, Countryside & Marine Manager for Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council said; “Bike Week aims to promote and encourage everyone to experience and realise the health benefits that come with cycling. “It’s also an opportunity to enjoy a different view of the new Causeway Coast and Glens Borough, while on your bike. Cycling is such a convenient, affordable and healthy mode of transport and I would encourage anyone with a bike to come along, get involved, bring the family and enjoy the events Council have on offer.” The week long programme offers free cycling events for all the family. Events include; a “Wheels for All” event on Saturday 13th June from 10.00am until 1.00pm, at the Millennium Centre, Lough Road, Loughguile. This is an event for the whole family with fun on bikes. On Monday 15th June there will be a ‘Cycle Safely Talk & Ride Out’ event from 6.30pm until 9.00pm at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre, Ballymoney. This is a great opportunity for families and individuals to learn how to cycle safely and enjoy a leisurely off-road ride out. Monday 15th June will also feature a return cycle from Coleraine to Downhill Forest on Monday 15th June 2015 at 6:45pm where participants can enjoy an evening 12 miles cycle ride along the stunning North Coast. Council is inviting everyone to its family ‘Cycle Ride and BBQ’ at its Coleraine office at Cloonavin, Coleraine on Wednesday 17th June 2015 at 6:45pm. The 6-7 miles route follows the River Bann through the town through Christie Park and Somerset Riverside Park and finishes off with a free BBQ at Cloonavin (pre-registration by 15 June 2015 necessary for catering arrangements). On Thursday 18th June there will be a ‘Ladies Ride Out’ event at Riverside Park, main car park (Armour Ave), Ballymoney from 7.00pm until 8.30pm. This course is aimed at women returning to cycling or wishing to improve on their existing cycle skills while recapturing the fun and pleasure of riding a bike. On Saturday 20th June from 10.00am until 1.00pm the ‘Lower Bann Leisure Cycle’ will take place. This includes a leisurely 18 miles bike ride starting and finishing in Ballymoney’s Riverside Park. During Bike Week Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council encourages everyone to cycle to school, college or work as an alternative to using motorised transportation.  Bike to School Day will take place on Wednesday 17th June and a Bike to Work Day has been scheduled to take place on Friday 19th June.
