Celebrating Ulster Scots Week in Causeway Coast and Glens

‘Fair faa ye! Fair faa ye tae our wittins blaudie anent Ulster-Scotch Leid Week 2021.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council wants to welcome you to Ulster Scots Language Week 2021 which runs from November 22nd – 27th.

To mark the occasion, Anne and Gary Blair will lead two free afternoon talks at Portrush Town Hall on Monday 22nd November and Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre in Limavady on Wednesday 24th November. Both events will take place from 2.30pm – 3.30pm. Anne and Gary will introduce the history, heritage and language of Ulster-Scots in the Borough focusing on local poets, authors, and its influence on place names in the local area.

Please note that places are limited due to social distancing and booking is required.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Richard Holmes said: “Ulster-Scots is all around us, and the upcoming ‘Leid Week’ provides an opportunity to explore the language and to celebrate it as part of the shared cultural heritage of the region. We’re looking forward to bringing these events to you, so please come along to find out more about Ulster Scots in our area.”

To end the week, ‘Buttermilk Loney’ band will play a selection of Ulster Scots influenced tunes at the Witch’s Hat bandstand in Portstewart on Friday 26th November between 1pm-2pm. These events have received financial support from The Executive Office as part of the District Councils Good Relations Programme and supports the T:BUC strategy (Together Building a United Community).
