‘Challenge yourself to Step into Spring’
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Health Improvement Project (NHIP) begin their 10,000 step challenge ‘Step into Spring’ on Monday 1st February.
Funded by the Public Health Agency and in conjunction with Derry Healthy Cities, the challenge will take place as a co-ordinated programme throughout the 6 areas NHIP work in, which are Limavady, Strabane and Waterside, Triax, Outer North and Outer West areas of Derry/ Londonderry.
Claire Hamilton, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Health Development Worker for NHIP Limavady comments, “We are all so excited to be part of this challenge where we are asking people to walk 10,000 steps every day for 28 days during February as a way of increasing their physical activity levels and the hope of improving overall health and wellbeing.
“It will be a challenge and each individual will be supported to reach their set target as best they can every day, while having fun with so many people involved. Each participant will receive a pedometer and log book so they are able to keep track of their steps and see how they progress over the time period. It will be great to review the end results.”
Council and the Western Health and Social Care Trust aim to raise the awareness of the challenge to help participants understand the benefits of walking, how to look at their own lifestyle choices and make changes which can be sustained in the long term.
The challenge commences on the 1st February, to receive a pedometer and log book, or for further information telephone Claire Hamilton at NHIP located in Limavady on 028 777 64009.
