Changes to Council’s registration services
Mon, September 21, 2015
CAUSEWAY Coast and Glens Borough Council has taken steps to improve its customer service in relation to the administration of births, deaths and marriages, civil partnerships and cemetery administration. The Council’s plans regulate its registration services across the new local government area, which merged the four legacy Councils of Ballymoney, Coleraine, Limavady and Moyle. From 1st October 2015 the revised arrangements for the registration service will see alignment of opening hours and the introduction of an appointments system. Registration Offices within the Council Offices at the four locations will open to the public as follows: Ballymoney, Coleraine and Limavady: 9.30am to 12.30pm and 2.00pm to 4.30pm Monday to Friday. Ballycastle 9.30am to 12.30pm. In a bid to further improve customer service, an appointment system, which ran as a pilot for six weeks, will be introduced in all Registration Offices. The introduction of a telephone messaging system in all offices will further enhance customer service. As well as conducting civil marriages/partnerships in the Council’s civic buildings Council can approve external venues for marriages/civil partnerships and set fees payable by the couple. There are a total of 28 external venues wi hin the Council’s boundaries licensed for these ceremonies, with provision for a maximum of three civil marriages/partnerships on Saturdays within the borough area. Each of the eleven new local government districts is a registration district and the council is the local registration authority. The Council exercises the registration function as an agent for the Department of Finance and Personnel (DFP), with DFP defraying the costs of running the service. Cemetery Administration which is also delivered by Council at its Registration Offices is to benefit from the introduction of an upgraded electronic management system. This web based solution with search facility will improve efficiency and effectiveness of cemetery administration.
