Civic reception held for award winning local producers

A civic reception has been held for Blas na hÉireann Irish Food Award winners from the Causeway Coast and Glens.
Now in its 11th year, the annual awards represent the biggest taste competition for Irish produce.
The latest local winners included:
Broighter Gold Rapeseed Oil – Best in Derry, Best in Farmers Market (Derry) and a Gold Award.
Glenballyeamon Eggs- Gold Award.
Lacada Brewery- Bronze Award (Ale category).
Morelli’s Ice-Cream- Bronze Award (Frozen Yogurt)
Irish Black Butter- Chef’s Choice Award
Corndale Farm- Gold Award for their Corndale Wild Sika Venison Salami
The event also provide an opportunity to recognise the Morelli family’s recent success at the Ice Cream Awards held in Harrowgate, Yorkshire where they were named Overall National Champion in their best ever performance at the ‘Ice-Cream Oscars’.
Expressing her congratulations to all the successful producers, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers said: “The Blas Awards are based on the blind tasting of produce and it is a tremendous achievement to see our area perform so well. Our food and drink sector continues to flourish and it is fantastic to see the hard work of our farmers and producers rewarded at this prestigious level.”
Over 2500 products were entered into the competition, competing to win Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in over 100 food and drink categories as well as specific key awards.
