Council launches Easter Sport & Recreation Camps for Young People

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is inviting children to register for its Easter sport and recreation programme, which will run from Wednesday 30th March to Friday 1st April.

The programme, developed by Council’s Sport Development and Physical Recreation Team (Coleraine) is aimed at young people aged between four and fourteen years. Activities will include football camps, multi-sports coaching camps, a Girls ‘Allowed’ Fun Activity Camp and a stand-alone hockey camp for boys and girls aged 7 to 14 years, which will be held at Council’s new Astroturf facility at Rugby Avenue.

A FREE transport collection service is also available.  This will include pick up and returns for young people living in rural areas of the Borough, such as Articlave, Aghadowey, Kilrea, Garvagh, Castlerock, Portrush and Portstewart for specified camps. Pick up points, times and further information are included in the programme leaflet.

A multi-sports camp will also be available for boys and girls aged seven to fourteen years old, offering a choice of selected sports each day. This will include Handball, Netball, Gaelic football, Tri-Golf, Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Sportshall Athletics, Tennis and Tag Rugby.

Roger Downey, Council’s Sports Development and Physical Recreation Manager (Coleraine) said: “This year’s programme is bursting at the seams and is designed to offer something for all children.

“The Girls ‘Allowed’ Fun Activity Camp is the perfect mix of sport and activities and our ever popular football camp is back again with skill enhancement, small sided games and match practice for all boys and girls who enjoy football at the new 3G pitch at Rugby Avenue.

“The multi-sport camp gives young people the opportunity to try a range of new sports, make new friends and have fun while improving their physical skills and techniques, whereas the newly established Hockey course will provide boys and girls with a top coaching experience on Council’s fantastic Astroturf pitch.

“All coaching sessions will be led by qualified, vetted coaches, with necessary equipment provided. It is advised that children wear suitable clothing and footwear. In particular, it should be noted that synthetic pitches do not allow for metal or aluminium studs. A rainproof jacket and hat may be required for outdoor activities and a towel with a change of clothes is advised.”

The full price for individuals to participate per camp is £18 for the three days. There is also a special family ticket available priced at £45 for three or more participating children per camp, from the same immediate family.

Enrolment will commence on Friday 4th March at 10.00am at Coleraine Leisure Centre. Application forms are available now from Coleraine Leisure Centre or from Leisure Services, Cloonavin.
