Council supports local businesses and shoppers in the Causeway Coast and Glens Town Centres


To support the local businesses and residents in the Borough this Christmas, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has organized an array of festive events for every Saturday during the month of December. These events will take place in the Borough’s four town centres of Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Coleraine and Limavady to entertain shoppers while they shop local this Christmas.

For each of the towns, entertainment includes: Ballycastle Highlights, on Saturday 5th December, the Santa’s Pony Parade and Dog Show will depart Sheskburn House car park at 1pm, and many of the town shops will be offering discounts for shoppers.

On 12th December, is the last of five Christmas Markets organised by Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market and is held in Davey Village Corrymeela.

On 19th December, the characters from ‘Frozen’ will be in town, along with face painting and balloon modelling fun, all between 1pm and 3pm.

Highlights in Ballymoney will include: On Saturday 5th December, the DJ will be in the Diamond, from 12 noon to 4pm.  Watch out for the Bouncing Elves between 1pm and 3pm! The festive fairground will be in Castlecroft Square between 11am and 4pm. 

On Saturday 12th December, Santa’s Grotto will be in Ballymoney’s Royal British Legion as part of their annual Christmas craft fair.  The DJ will be back in the Diamond from 12 noon to 4pm as will the festive fairground, in Castlecroft Square, between 11am and 4pm. 

On 19th December, the DJ will move the fun to Castlecroft Square, where children can meet Mickey Mouse, Olaf and see the mechanical reindeer between 2pm and 4pm. There will be another opportunity to meet Santa in Cassells between 11am and 4pm, for £1 but remember to bring a camera!  

Time to get that unique photograph for Christmas 2015 as the Snow Globe Experience operates at Coleraine Town Hall from 10am until 5pm on Saturday 12th December with entertainment by the Girona Community Orchestra between 12 noon and 2pm. The snow Globe will again appeal from 1pm until 4pm on Sunday 13th December.

Causeway Speciality Market will be operating additional dates this Christmas from 12 noon to 8pm on Thursday 17th and Friday 18thDecember. This will coincide with late night shopping to 9pm on Thursday.  A final chance to purchase locally produced artisan food and craft, will be on Saturday 19th December from 9am until 4pm. Enjoy the carol singing between 1pm and 3pm and meet the Bouncing Elves!

Free Park ‘n’ Ride will continue every Saturday between Riverside Retail Park and Coleraine Town Centre in the lead up to Christmas Day.

Limavady Town Centre Highlights: On Saturday 5th December, Limavady Crafters have joined with Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market to bring a huge variety of food and craft produce to Drumceatt Square between 11am and 4pm. Furthermore, the Indoor Country Market will take place in Newtown Square from 10am until 2pm.  The very popular Men in Black Jazz band will entertain shoppers in Market Street. Please note this was postponed due to weather conditions and will now be held on Saturday 19th December.

On Saturday 12th December, it’s ‘Frozen’ Day in Limavady, with workshops and singalongs (pre-bookable) in the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre.  Meet the ‘Frozen’ characters, Olaf, Anna and Elsa who will be out and about between 1pm and 3pm. Tel 7776 0650 to pre-book. 

On Saturday 19th December, the Indoor Country Market will return to Newtown Square between 10am and 2pm, as will the Men in Black to Market St between 11.30am and 1.30pm.

Furthermore, there is FREE car parking in each of the town centre car parks on Saturday the  5th, 12th and 19th of December, as well as a Park n Ride service in Coleraine, taking the hassle out of an enjoyable shopping trip. Don’t forget to bring a camera, as there’ll be plenty of special characters out and about! So don’t forget, there is plenty to entertain the whole family with opportunities to buy those last minute gifts with free car parking. FREE car parking on Saturdays 5th, 12th and 19th December includes Ann Street in Ballycastle; Castle Street and Church Street in Ballymoney; Abbey Street, Long Commons, The Mall, Railway Place, Railway Road, and the Waterside in Coleraine; Connell Street, Central and Main Street in Limavady.

Free Sunday Parking is available in Coleraine’s Abbey Street and The Mall on 6th, 13th and 20th Dec 2015.

There will be a Free Park ‘n’ Ride each Saturday from 28th November to 19th December located from Riverside Retail Park and Town Centre 9.30am to 6pm, with a free bus with Pick up and Drop off at Library, Leisure Centre and Riverside Retail Park, every 15 minutes.  This is supported by Transport NI.

Council encourages everyone to Shop Local This Christmas.  With a huge festive offering in the town centres, Council hopes everyone can shop local and enjoy what the Borough has to offer.  Shops are accommodating their customers by opening on Sundays and opening late on selected evenings, where full details can also be sourced on Council’s Facebook.

For Sunday Shopping and Late Night Shopping, Ballymoney on Sunday 20th December from 1pm to 5pm and late nights 17th to 23rdDecember.

Coleraine will be open on Sundays 1pm to 6pm from 29th November and Late nights to 9pm from 17th to 23rd December.  Shops will open Boxing Day and New Year’s Day 10am until 6pm, with the Diamond Centre opening late nights Monday to Friday from 7thDecember.

Limavady will be open on Sunday 20th December from 1pm until 5pm and late nights 18th to 23rd December.
