Digital Youth Programme launched at Dunluce School
Tue, October 23, 2018
Students from Dunluce School in Bushmills have enjoyed the launch of Causeway Coast and Glens new Digital Youth Programme.
The initiative, delivered in partnership with Young Enterprise NI, is an innovative programme designed to encourage digital entrepreneurs in the Borough.
Within the programme, it is hoped young people will become informed about future careers and opportunities within the digital sector, whilst also providing teachers with access to vital professional development video learning.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Brenda Chivers said: “The Digital Youth programme aims to harness young people’s entrepreneurial drive and equip them with skills that are increasingly sought after by employers. The Year 10 pupils from Dunluce School are the first students to take part in this worthwhile innovative digital project and it is hoped more schools will be encouraged to sign up, allowing them to complement the numerous good examples of digital education already on offer in local schools.”
Carol Fitzsimons MBE, Chief Executive with Young Enterprise NI, added: “We commend the Council for supporting the education system in the development of young people and the application of their digital literacy. Many young people have no experience of applying digital skills in the workplace and don’t always realise the growing significance of this to employers across a range of sectors. This programme will equip them with the skills they need to develop bright careers in whatever industry they choose.”
Andrew McCracken, Digital Ambassador, Gofyt said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, it’s such a pleasure to have the privilege of speaking life into the next generation and calling out the potential they each have. The students are outstanding and over the course of a couple of hours they created a product, pricing and marketing strategy and then presented in front of their year. Absolutely amazing!”
