As part of their annual August Children’s Month, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Roe Valley Arts & Cultural Centre, Limavady hosts two amazing exhibitions to enchant children and young people. ‘Beautiful Creatures’ by Emily Carew Woodard and ‘From Sketch to Screen’ by Corrina Askin run from 6th August to 24th September.
Based in London, artist Emily Carew Woodard presents a selection of her acclaimed animal illustrations in her exhibition ‘Beautiful Creatures’. Emily illustrates a range of mischievous animals in humorous scenes, with a quirky nod to classic Victorian and fairy tale illustration.
She has provided commissioned artwork for a range of international clients including The Times, fashion house Alexander McQueen, retail giant John Lewis and Random Books as well as more recently completing a major project with the Roald Dahl Foundation, working on San Antonio Opera’s adaptation of Fantastic Mr Fox, which is now touring the United States.
Also working internationally, Donegal and Paris-based animation artist and illustrator, Corrina Askin exhibits a range of her book illustrations and sketches from her commissioned animations in her exhibition ‘From Sketch to Screen’.
Corrina has created animations for Channel 4, MTV, RTE and The Irish Film Board as well as animation series for television including Joe and Jack for RTE and Castle Farm for Milkshake. She has also created animations of classic children’s tales for CBeebies and has won multiple international awards for her book illustrations.
Desima Connolly, Arts & Cultural Services Officer commented, “Every year as part of our August Children’s Month, we specifically curate exhibitions which will appeal to children and young people as we feel it is so important for them to be part of our gallery programme.
“It is a delight that we can present internationally acclaimed artists and illustrators whose work can only usually be seen in London or other significant venues, right here for local audiences.”
Both exhibitions are displaid throughout August and continue until the 24th September and admission is free. The exhibitions will also be accompanied by a Chill Zone specifically for families to relax in the gallery spaces with art materials, children’s books, bean bags and of course, fairy lights!
