The team at Flowerfield Arts Centre invites you to the launch of their new exhibition Thin Places, which opens on Saturday 15th March and runs until Saturday 26th April.
This exhibition, by artist Bob Spears explores Peatlands (bogs) as a Thin Place – ‘where the veil between the physical and the transcendental appears permeable or thin’.
His unique work features materials taken from bogs across Ireland and uses discarded household materials and paint to evoke ethereal landscapes. These landscapes seamlessly transcend both the ancient and the contemporary, showing us the mystical space between the tangible and unseen world.
At the evening launch event, on Saturday 15th March Bob will discuss this work, inspiration and methods, alongside a performance of his original music inspired by his wanderings through the Irish boglands. This event will commence at 7pm, all are welcome with free admission and no need to book.
Alongside this exhibition, Professor Jonathan Pilcher will provide a fascinating talk on the environmental and cultural significance of peatlands on Wednesday 19th March (7pm – 8.45pm) while Glass Artist, Natasha Duddy will lead a Fused Glass Landscape Panel Workshop on Saturday 15th March (10am – 1pm) exploring natural tones and textures to create a sense of depth within the boglands.
The talk and creative workshop can be booked online at Flowerfield.org or by calling Flowerfield Reception on 028 7083 1400.
