Coleraine’s digital infrastructure has been enhanced by the completion of a public WiFi project.

Visitors and shoppers can now get connected for free – representing a hugely valuable asset for the town as it continues to position itself as a regional hub for trade and tourism in the Causeway Coast and Glens.

The development marks the completion of a major network project funded by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and the Department for Communities

Welcoming the project, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Joan Baird OBE said: “The introduction of On Street public Wi-Fi is an asset for Coleraine which will enhance the town’s reputation as a great place to work, live and do business. Since its introduction, the free service has been used around 4000 times every month, contributing to positive visitor experiences and helping to create a vibrant and prosperous town centre. I would like to thank Coleraine Town Team and all local traders for their support throughout the programme.”

The WiFi project forms part of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s overall strategy to improve Coleraine’s connectivity. As the Borough’s municipal centre, it is well-placed to capitalise on the large number of people who visit the area every year for internationally renowned events including the North West 200 and the SuperCup NI.

Jeanette Parry, from provider Atlas Communications said: “Having completed other internet service schemes within Northern Ireland, the project within Coleraine has seen one of the largest uptakes and we are delighted to have been able to contribute to the Council’s digital strategies”.

To access the service in the town centre, log on to ColeraineWiFi on your smartphone or mobile device.
