Get outdoors and active with Causeway Coast and Glens Walking for Health Festival

Mon, July 30, 2018

The first ever Causeway Coast and Glens Walking for Health Festival begins on August 2nd.

Organised by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council and the Northern Health and Social Care Trust, the initiative is designed to encourage people to improve their health and wellbeing by participating in short community walks led mainly by volunteer walk leaders.

The Festival will showcase the Walking for Health Groups that exist across the Borough and includes a series of walks suitable for people with dementia and their carer’s, family members and friends.

Walks will take place in a range of different locations across the Causeway Coast and Glens area, including towns, beaches, forests and coastal paths.

Refreshments will be provided or available to purchase.  All walks will be led by qualified leaders and are open to anyone aged 18 and over.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No dogs are permitted except for guide dogs.  All participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing and footwear.

Brochures, including one specifically for the Dementia Friendly walks, are now available from Sheskburn House (Ballycastle), Cloonavin (Coleraine) Riada House (Ballymoney), the Council offices in Limavady as well as Spruce House, Cushendall Road, Ballymena. These contain full details about the festival programme including dates, times, location and walk leader.
