Halloween Creative Writing Course

Wed, October 14, 2015

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre, Limavady is opening its doors to creative writers everywhere. A special Halloween themed workshop with acclaimed writer Bernie McGill will be held on Saturday 31st October from 10.00am until 4.00pm, entitled ‘Between the Lights’. The course is suitable for any adult, either beginning to dabble in putting pen to paper or for those more experienced and seeking supportive advice and the company of like-minded individuals. Bernie has crafted this fantastic workshop inspired by the Halloween tradition. The Celtic festival of Samhain traditionally marked the end of the lighter half, and the beginning of the darker half of the year. It is believed that the division between this world and the other world was at its thinnest, allowing spirits to pass through. Bernie McGill has written for the theatre including ‘The Weather Watchers and ‘The Haunting of Helena Blunden, and a novel, ‘The Butterfly Cabinet’ plus a short story collection entitled ‘Sleepwalkers’. Her short fiction has been nominated for numerous awards and in 2008 she won the Zoetrope: All-Story Short Fiction Award in the United States. She is a recipient of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland's inaugural ACES (Artists' Career Enhancement Scheme) Award in association with the Seamus Heaney Centre at Queen's University, Belfast. Places for the one day workshop cost £15 per person, excluding lunch.
