With less than one week until voting closes, the organisers of the Cornfield Project are asking for your votes before voting closes on 1st November 2015 to help them win the £135,000 award for Grow Wild’s flagship project in Northern Ireland. The project aims to bring people together by transforming communal spaces through the sowing and growing native plants. If successful, the project, which was developed by Aspire Community Partnership; a collaborative consortium of local grass-roots community groups including; Focus on Family as the lead partner, Millburn Community Association, Building Ballysally Together, Oasis Causeway and Coleraine Education Community Project aim to use the money to implement a site plan transforming and developing the use of the Cornfield site into a nature area.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, The Woodland Trust, who own the site; The Conservation Volunteers and Northern Health and Social Services are in full support of the project and its vision to create an area which benefits the local communities of Millburn and Ballysally and the wider Causeway Coast and Glens area. The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight McQuillan commented, “The communities representing the Cornfield Project have worked in partnership to get the project to the final of Grow Wild’s flagship project in Northern Ireland. “It’s wonderful to imagine what opportunities local children and the communities could have if the site is developed to its full potential. I’d ask everyone within the Borough and beyond to support the project, get voting and bring the award money here to Coleraine!” Brendan Patterson, organiser of The Cornfield Project commented “We just want to say a huge thank you to everyone from the local area and further afield who have already voted or supported us in other ways.
