Mayor condemns vandalism at Portrush Town Hall

Mon, February 22, 2021

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has spoken out after damage was caused to Portrush Town Hall over the weekend.

Two windows were broken at the iconic building on Mark Street on Saturday evening.

Replacements are expected to be installed this week.

The Mayor, Alderman Mark Fielding, said: “It’s hugely disappointing to learn that this beautiful building has been targeted by vandals and we are now left counting the cost. Such mindless damage comes at a price, diverting valuable Council resources which would be better used elsewhere.”

“Over the past number of years there’s been a sustained effort to rejuvenate Portrush’s physical appearance which makes this type of behaviour even more frustrating. The Town Hall is a precious part of the resort’s history and I wholly condemn those who set out to damage it.

“If you saw anything suspicious at all on Saturday evening please contact the Police by ringing 101 and help us to put a stop to this.”
