Mayor expresses thanks to local volunteers

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has marked Volunteers’ Week by visiting a number of local groups who are making a difference in their local communities.
The visits allowed Councillor Sean Bateson to say a personal ‘thank you’ to some of those involved in the hugely important community and voluntary sector in Causeway Coast and Glens.
He said: “Throughout my term as Mayor I have grown more aware of the importance of volunteers in our towns, villages and rural areas, and the sudden onslaught of the coronavirus pandemic has only served to heighten this.
“Volunteers’ Week has never been more important, and this year’s theme ‘time to say thank you’ is something we should all reflect on.
“Volunteers play an important role in enhancing people’s lives and improving our local areas, and during this ongoing pandemic they have been to the fore ensuring that those most in need receive the necessary support. The rapid community response to COVID-19 in Causeway Coast and Glens has proved to be a lifeline to the vulnerable and I want to thank everyone who has played a part in this.
“With my time as Mayor almost over, this was a very fitting way to bring my engagements to an end and I was grateful to have the opportunity to witness the variety of work going on across Causeway Coast and Glens.
“Last month, I experienced the benefits of volunteering for myself when I took on the role of a telephone befriender. This was a very worthwhile experience and something I would highly recommend. If you have skills to share, or spare time on your hands, please consider volunteering as a way of reaching out and connecting with other people.
“Thank you once again to all our hard-working and dedicated volunteers across the area for everything you do.”
