The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has described the construction of a new Northern Regional College campus as a significant moment for education in Coleraine and the wider Borough.

Alderman Mark Fielding made his comments following confirmation that the project is set to get underway imminently.

He said: “The development of this multi-million pound project is welcome news and will transform the Union Street site in to a world class facility on our door step. It represents exciting opportunities for future students and the wider community who will benefit greatly from its development and ensure that they have access to the best possible education environment.

“I’m hopeful that we will see the return of a buoyant economy to the Borough, and this project will play a major part in that, from the build-stage through to completion and beyond. I’m particularly looking forward to seeing Anderson Park revitalised as part of this scheme, adding a unique outside green space to the campus and strengthening its connection to the town centre.

“I want to offer my best wishes to the College staff and the appointed contractor as they embark on this project and I look forward to seeing the site develop over the coming years and reaching its full potential as a centre of learning excellence.”
