Mayor opens new ‘Through the Lens’ exhibition at Coleraine Town Hall

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan, opened Coleraine Museum’s ‘Through the Lens’ exhibition in Coleraine Town Hall on Friday 20th November.

The exhibition, curated by Coleraine Museum’s volunteers, Rachel Crawford and Barbara Harding, displays a small selection of photographs from the Chronicle and Constitution negatives archive. It focuses on shops and businesses in the town with photographs dating from the 1960s to more recent times.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan, commented, “I want to thank Rachel and Barbara for all their work on the archive and in bringing together this fantastic exhibition which is a display of local history and will be reminiscent for many people.”

Sarah Carson, Collections Access Officer said, “Over the years, an abundance of photographs, taken by photographers of the Chronicle and the Constitution newspapers, have resulted in a huge archive of images, currently on loan to Coleraine Museum.

“Our volunteers have taken on the momentous task of scanning these negatives and making them accessible through this brilliant exhibition which is testament to all their hard work. When visiting Coleraine and doing your Christmas shopping, I would encourage you to call into the Town Hall and see how many shops and faces you recognise.”

The exhibition runs from the 19th November until the 23rd December 2015, from Tuesday to Saturday, 11am until 4pm in Coleraine Town Hall. For further information, please contact Collections Access Officer, Sarah Carson on sarah.carson@causewaycoastandglens.gov.ukor 028 7034 7234.
