Last month, Dessie was awarded with the illustrious Stoakes Award in recognition of his three decades as the Society Honorary Agent in Portrush.

The organisation, founded in 1839, aims to provide financial assistance to fishermen, mariners and their dependants who have suffered hardship, misfortune or poverty, as a result of an accident, illness, disability, unemployment or retirement.

It is supported by Her Royal Highness Princess Anne.

Dessie said he was very happy to have been hosted by the Mayor at a special civic reception, describing it as "a great honour".

“I appreciated him taking the time to meet myself and my wife," he added.
