The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has hosted a reception for the Friends of Ballycastle Museum volunteers.
The event, held in Sheskburn House, was an opportunity to say ‘thank you’ to the group for their contribution to the Museum.
Through their dedication, the facility was open for an additional 320 hours this season, welcoming 895 visitors.
Speaking after the reception, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird OBE, said: “I was delighted to meet with the volunteers and acknowledge their contribution to Ballycastle Museum. It is a fantastic asset to the town, which showcases the area’s rich history through some fascinating collections and artefacts. The group have really brought the Museum to life with their vast knowledge of the area, which greatly enhances the overall visitor experience.”
Ballycastle museum is housed in an 18th century courthouse and market building on Castle Street. It includes the very important and fine Irish Homes Industries Workshop collection which was part of the Arts and Crafts Revival in Ireland. It is also home to the Taise banner, which dates back to the first Glens Feis in 1904. There is also social history material of the 19th and 20th century, Neolithic finds from Rathlin Island, Bronze Age material and a photographic and postcard archive.
