Mayor’s thanks for frontline staff during visits to Council depots

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has said frontline workers are among the ‘unsung heroes’ of the coronavirus pandemic.
Councillor Sean Bateson was speaking after visiting Council’s four depots in Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Coleraine and Limavady where he met refuse collection staff along with some of those who work in the area’s Recycling Centres.
He said: “Bin collections are one of Council’s essential functions, and we know our ratepayers expect this vital service of us. Despite restrictions and challenges, our staff have maintained a normal service and we are indebted to our frontline workers who continue to empty our black, blue and brown bins on a weekly basis.
“Our staff are very grateful for the thanks shown to them from our local communities and I hope this situation encourages all of us to have a greater appreciation for those who provide essential services, both within Council and in the wider area.
“Please continue to support our refuse workers and do everything you can to keep them safe. Make sure you always clean down your bin handles and have them ready for collection no later than 7am on the appropriate day.
“If you need to use our Household Recycling Centres, remember you must book an appointment in advance, sort your waste before leaving home and be able to offload it yourself to maintain social distancing.
“These measures are in place for everyone’s benefit during this health crisis and I would ask the public to continue to show patience and understanding.
“Finally, I want to reiterate my sincere thanks to our frontline workers who have done all they can to maintain the highest quality of service during these unprecedented times.”
