New ‘Cooking With Toddlers’ scheme has the recipe for success
Mon, October 29, 2018
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has launched a new programme which aims to promote healthy eating among some of our youngest residents.
‘Cooking with Toddlers’ has been devised in partnership with Mid and East Antrim Borough Council and the Public Health Agency. It’s designed to encourage good eating habits and promote the importance of a varied and balanced diet.
As part of the programme childcare representatives from across the Causeway Coast and Glens have received a kid-friendly toolkit with tips and advice on cooking with young children and an equipment pack to get kitchen-ready.
Welcoming the scheme, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers said: “The resources which are available through ‘Cooking With Toddlers’ provide an interactive way to encourage children to eat healthy, nutritious foods and they reinforce key public health messages including the importance of consuming five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. They encourage parents and carers to involve young people in the cooking process and have fun together while making healthy meals and snacks.”
Recipes included in the programme include fruit rockets, racing cars, sunshine omelettes and ladybird sandwiches which provide an alternative way for children to explore and have fun with food.
