‘Small Worlds’ event promotes good relations in the Borough
Wed, November 29, 2017
Individuals from different nationalities recently came together to participate in a ‘Small Worlds’ event at The Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre.
The event is part of the Causeway Prejudice Challenge Programme which aims to promote safe and welcoming areas for all.
The café-style event, provided an opportunity for people from different nationalities to speak about their hardships and trauma prior to their arrival in Northern Ireland.
The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Joan Baird, OBE commented; “These workshops provide people with insight into the diversity that exists in Northern Ireland and provide a safe space in which participants can engage with those from different backgrounds and other parts of the world. The Causeway Prejudice Challenge will hopefully enable everyone to challenge their own perceptions and help build mutual respect on the issue of immigrants and refugees.”
The event which was facilitated by The Belfast Friendship Club was attended by individuals who had participated in earlier workshops of the Causeway Prejudice Challenge programme, an initiative by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Good Relations programme.
This project has received financial support from The Executive Office.
