Three centenarians receive special civic gift from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council
Wed, April 14, 2021
Presentations have been made to the first recipients of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s centenary civic gift.
The Mayor Alderman Mark Fielding, accompanied by the Mayoress Mrs Phyllis Fielding, visited three centenarians in Coleraine and Portstewart on Saturday 10th April 2021 to make the special deliveries.
The presentation coincided with Isabelle Claypole’s 100th birthday while Bertha Fearson reached the milestone on February 11th with Canon Robert Wilkinson’s taking place on March 24th.
The bespoke commemorative coin, which feature Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Coat of Arms on one side with ‘NI 100’ branding on the reverse, will be presented to all residents of the Borough who celebrate their 100th birthday in 2021, Northern Ireland’s centenary year.
The initiative is part of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s ‘NI 100’ programme which will mark Northern Ireland’s 100th anniversary. A series of events and initiatives are planned for the year which collectively aim to showcase the very best of the Borough through the century and what makes it such a special place.
Alderman Fielding said: “As Mayor of the Borough it was an honour for me to meet with Isabelle, Bertha and Canon Wilkinson to mark their birthdays in this way. I want to thank these special individuals for being a part of our centenary programme, along with their family members, friends and carers who play such an important role in their lives.
“These coins have been specially designed as part of our centenary celebrations and will serve as a unique memento of how the Borough marked 2021. I look forward to meeting with more recipients as my term continues.”
The civic gift scheme is open to all people, organisations and businesses who celebrate their 100th birthday between January 1st 2021 and December 31st 2021.
