WHAT ATTRACTS VISITORS AND RESIDENTS TO COLERAINE?

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan went to meet and thank the teams of Council’s Street Cleansing and Parks & Cemeteries, to personally congratulate them on achieving First Prize for a Town, in this year’s Translink’s Ulster in Bloom competition. Photo taken at Coleraine’s Rose Gardens, open to the public.Coleraine has just won first prize in this year’s 2015 Translink Ulster in Bloom Competition, in the Town Category, recognising the work and commitment of the staff from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. The town is in bloom from spring right through to autumn and continues to attract visitors to the location throughout the year, with its clean streets and floral decorations. Parks staff, which include the teams from the grass cutting departments and nursery’s, with support from technical services’ street cleansing staff and the wombles, work tirelessly to ensure maintenance of flower beds, grass and high profile areas such as roundabouts. Additional work goes into the production of bedding plants, both spring and autumn, and planting out throughout the Borough. The dedicated hard work of the staff ensures the maintenance of high profile areas make approaches to the towns more attractive, well maintained and litter free for both residents and visitors to the Borough. Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Michelle Knight-McQuillan went to meet the teams and thank them personally for their contribution and dedication to Coleraine and to the Borough. Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Parks General Manager, Paul Jess said, “The entrance into the 2015 Ulster in Bloom competition sets a benchmark for amenity horticultural practices regarding performance for the Parks staff within Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. “It is important that the maintenance of flower beds, grass areas and high profile areas is to a high standard particularly being that this is a tourist orientated Borough. We ensure the input from the judges of Ulster in Bloom is taken on board in order to improve and maintain existing high standards within our towns. “Ulster in Bloom is a great way to demonstrate and publicise the skills and experience of the staff working within the Parks and Cemeteries department, as well as those in street cleansing. I would like to congratulate and thank the staff who work to maintain the high standards which led to Coleraine winning first prize this year.” Following first prize in Ulster in Bloom, Coleraine can now be entered in to the Britain in Bloom competition, which takes place in 2016 where it will compete against all other Parks Departments and Community groups throughout the United Kingdom.
