Winners announced at Coleraine Sports Awards

A range of sporting achievements have been recognised at Coleraine’s annual Sports Awards.

The regional heat, held on Thursday 11th October, featured 15 awards and bursary presentations.

The winners will now go forward to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s gala sports award evening which will take place in the Lodge Hotel on Friday 2nd November.

The winners:

Junior Sportswoman: Caitlin Henry, Judo

Junior Sportsman: Reece McCloskey, Shotokan Karate

Junior Team: Bertie Peacock’s Under 14s, Football

Sports Person with a Disability: Tyler Troy, Swimming

Sports Administrator: Mary McGoldrick, Gymnastics

Services to Sport: Ursula Harper, Hockey

Coach of the Year: Paul Price, Judo

Merit Award: Lisa Christie, Gymnastics

Senior Team: Coleraine FC

Sportsman: Gareth McAuley, Clay Pigeon Shooting

Sportswoman: Sonia Knox

International Sportsperson of the Year: Katie Mullan, Hockey

Harry Gregg Bursary: Bann Rowing Club

Bobby Platt Bursary: Coleraine Grammar School Rowing Club

Harry McCormick Youth Bursary: Caitlin Henry

Caitlin Henry, winner of the Junior Sports Woman title at Coleraine Sports Awards receives her award from the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers and Robert McVeigh from Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council. Caitlin has enjoyed a raft of success in judo including gold medals at the 2018 Irish Open and Irish Schools competition. Reece McCloskey, Junior Sportsman of the Year, receives his award from the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers, John Church, Chair Coleraine Sports Council and Robert McVeigh from Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council. Reece is the current Shotokan Karate Irish Champion (third year in a row) and won first place at the British National Championships Boys Kumite and the Prestigious Liverpool Youth Championships. Tyler won three gold medals at the Special Olympics Regional Finals in Dublin. The Sports Administrator of the Year award went to Mary McGoldrick from Sika Gymnastics Club. Coach of the Year Paul Price accepts his award from the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers with John Church, Chair Coleraine Sports Council and Robert McVeigh from Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council. Paul has played a leading role at Coleraine Junior Judo Club since 2015. Lisa Christie from Sika Gymnastics Club, winner of the Merit Award at Coleraine Sports Award for her services to the club, accepts her award from the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council  Councillor Brenda Chivers with John Church, Chair Coleraine Sports Council and Robert McVeigh from Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council. Lyndon Kane accepts the Senior Sports Team of the Year award on behalf of Coleraine FC from the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers with Robert McVeigh from Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council and John Church, Chair Coleraine Sports Council. Sonia Knox receives the Sportswoman of the Year award from the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Brenda Chivers with Robert McVeigh from Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Council and John Church, Chair Coleraine Sports Council in recognition of her duathlon and triathlon successes.
