Mon, September 14, 2015

With the summer holidays now a distant memory and school getting into full flow what better way to kick start the onset of autumn than to register your child on one of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Sports Development & Physical Recreation (Coleraine) activity programmes?   This autumn, the activity programme comprises of the Activ8 Wildcats Club, Bambinos (football coaching for 4 to 10 year olds), Just Dance Club, Saturday Morning Live Sport & Recreation Club, Causeway Junior Netball, Coleraine Junior Hockey, Coleraine West Table Tennis Hub, Coleraine Cougars Special Olympics Basketball Club, IFA Coleraine Strikers Disability Football Club, Portballintrae Bambinos and the Causeway Coast Volleyball Club. Talking about the Causeway Coast Volleyball Club, Jonny McFadden, Active Communities Coach said; “Volleyball is once again an up and coming sport in the borough which seems to be most popular with 12 to18 year olds. “So, I am happy to announce that we can now offer opportunities for teenagers and young adults, both male and female to play volleyball as a sporting pastime and / or develop their skills at team and competitive level. “This new Club will meet each Thursday at the Jim Watt Sports Centre, Garvagh from 1st October, 7:00pm – 8:00pm each night and costs just £3 per week.  I recommend kids to come along and learn the techniques of volleyball; serve, pass, set, attack, block and dig”. Roger Downey, Council’s Sports Development & Recreation Manager (Coleraine), said; “Our Activity Programme is bursting with quality sporting and recreation based activities now more than ever. “Each one offers something different for our young people but all uphold the same values and quality delivery.  Every activity is totally child-centred and will promote learning, activity and FUN! “The message from our team is, join in the activities, have fun, get fit, make new friends, catch the sporting buzz and see where it takes you”. This autumn activity programme offers young people of various ages, abilities and interests something that is sure to cater for their specific requirements and individual needs.
