Project Description
This Programme will support disadvantaged individuals and families who are struggling to navigate basic life skills at home, within their community or in the labour market and who are having difficulty accessing training or education. This programme aims to provide life skills and access to relevant levels of education and training, leading directly to work based opportunities, increased knowledge, enhanced self-confidence and motivation.
The Programme will address the following key issues:
- Supporting those who are economically inactive to seek employment.
- To help support lowering of the rising unemployment rate across the Borough.
- Supporting older generations to develop new skills to get back into the workforce or move to different roles.
- Supporting the lack of potential employees in areas such as the tourism, food and beverage and customer services sectors, which are key to the economic viability of many areas across the Borough.
- Supporting the changes in employment opportunities across the various sectors and upskill a new work force that can make the most of these opportunities.
- Encouragement and support for those deemed to be “underemployed”, people who have the opportunity and ability to be in better paid and more specific roles in accordance with their actual skills set.
By the end of the programme, the following targets will have been achieved:
- 260 x participants recruited.
- A minimum of 26 hours (total) of meaningful engagement must be provided per participant.
- Delivery of a tailored, skills need assessment for a range of personal tests.
- Delivery of a programme that challenges the “traditional” route to employment, and a demonstration of the wider opportunities on offer.
- Creation of a participant’s forum.
- Delivery of a practical life-experience and skills programme delivered utilising a community setting e.g. schools (after hours), community hubs or networks.
- Delivery of a showcase/finale event.
