Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre is delighted to host two exhibitions this July in partnership with Brain Injury Matters (NI) – I AM and Interrupted (Journeys).
I AM, is an exhibition through which the artists have explored personal themes like identity, emotions and dreams, aiming to represent themselves beyond preconceptions. This exhibition features mixed media and 3D elements created by artists Wendy Kelly, James Stewart, Stephen Gifford, Rene Boyd, Leah Batchelor, Lesley McClune, Kathryn Clarke, and Lisa Forsythe.
The second of the two exhibitions - Explore Interrupted (Journeys), is a large-scale collaborative installation inspired by aural histories from Limavady. It tells the tale of the stranded Ross Sea Party, a branch of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Trans-Antarctic Expedition.
The party was assigned to place supply depots along the Ross Ice Shelf, when their ship Aurora broke free in a violent storm, cutting off access to supplies and communication the team was left isolated. Enduring extreme isolation and adversity, they still managed to complete their mission. This artwork honours their resilience, bravery, and hope through a detailed origami installation that mirrors their dangerous journey.
Members of the public are invited to the official launch of both exhibits on Tuesday 8th July at 2pm. The exhibition will be opened by Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan. All are welcome.
