Council is proud to support this year’s Briggs Equipment North West 200 via its Tourism Event Funding Programme.
The fund which opened earlier this year for applications, will support 10 community events throughout 2025, the first of which is the world famous North West 200.
This week, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan joined with Council’s Tourism, Events Manager Gareth Fall to meet with the organising committee for the event.
The Mayor said: “I was pleased to meet with Mervyn Whyte MBE and Gerard McAuley, during my visit to the Briggs Equipment North West 200 paddock.
“Council is pleased to support the NW200 via the Tourism Event Funding Programme and I know I join with many sporting and racing fans as we look forward to race week commencing 5th May 2025.
“Of course, this year Council will also be marking the 25th anniversary of Joey Dunlop’s untimely death as our Joey 25 event on the 24th May, which I would also encourage you to come along to.”
As the largest annual sporting event in Ireland, the NW200 is one of the area’s most iconic events in the racing calendar. Councillor McQuillan went on to say: “While visitors and locals are here for the North West 200 I hope that while enjoying the racing, they also find time to enjoy the scenery, hospitality and fantastic local businesses we have in Causeway Coast and Glens.”
Council is pleased to provide continued support to the event organisers via its Tourism Event Fund assists with event delivery, sustainability and skills retention within the organisation, as well as supporting events to future proof the event.
The NW200 attracts thousands of visitors each year and generating millions of pounds for our local economy
NW200 Event Director Mervyn Whyte MBE, thanked the Mayor saying: “Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has partnered with the NW200 for many years now and we are fortunate to call this area of outstanding natural beauty the home of racing.
“Council’s support helps us stage the races and we will continue to work with them all year round to enable us to bring this great event to the fans.”
