With just a few weeks to go until Causeway Coast and Glens hosts the 153rd Open, Council has invited the public to enjoy all the Borough has to offer saying, ‘Our Town is Open’.
Local businesses have partnered with Council to get the message out there that our towns and villages are open. From hospitality to fashion and experience providers to artisan makers - the teams in local businesses across the Borough are eager to welcome you this summer.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens said: “We know that many locals and visitors plan to enjoy the golf this July, but I’d also encourage anyone who lives here or is visiting to go further afield and visit our towns and villages to enjoy all the wonderful shops, restaurants and activities we offer.
“The ‘Our Town is Open’ message is a very positive one which we hope will encourage members of the public to take a second look at what our beautiful Council area has to offer and maybe visit somewhere you haven’t been before.”
The Mayor added: “While Portrush will be buzzing with excitement the town centre and our Council area as a whole is very much open for business. We have many fantastic businesses along the coastal route, from Ballymoney all the way to the Glens and our town centre traders in particular would love to see you.”
As part of Council’s latest campaign, local business owners and school children have joined the fun by participating in a series of ‘Our Town is Open’ videos, local school children also had the opportunity to participate in the Road to the Open golf programme over the last few months.
Fiona Bryant who jointly owns White River Charters said: “Sharing the story of our boat, how we restored it and welcoming customers to our tours of the River Bann is a privilege for us.
“As a boating experience provider operating and living in Causeway Coast and Glens I was delighted to be involved in the ‘Our Town is Open’ campaign. The North Coast has so much to offer locals and visitors, and we hope you get a chance to see it by boat with one of our team.”
The campaign hopes to show both residents and visitors the wealth of options there are for time spent in the Borough with Barry O’Neill of Portstewart based Sauna and Sea adding: “As a joint owner of a sustainable coastal business in Causeway Coast and Glens I really enjoyed participating in the filming for this campaign.
“Portstewart and the surrounding areas have so many things to do for residents and tourists to do - so if you are here for the golf, come along, enjoy yourself out and about the area with our fantastic businesses, for more info on what we do visit our website.”
Of course it’s not just experiences and amazing scenery that the Borough offers, there is a wealth of shops in our towns and villages, offering something for everyone as Winnie Mellot of The Winsome Lady Ballymoney highlighted: “My shop The Winsome Lady is based in Ballymoney, and as Retail NI’s High Street of the Year for two years in a row, Ballymoney and the extended area really does offer a range of bespoke shops, cafés and things to do that really is unrivalled.
“Thank you to the team at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for highlighting our towns are open, both during the golf and indeed all year round.”
Olga Henry, General Manager of The Marine Hotel, Ballycastle concluded: “We are looking forward to welcoming the many guests who are staying with us this summer, both for the 153rd Open Championship and for family holidays. Our beachfront location makes the ideal base to explore the Causeway Coast and Glens.
“The Our Town Is Open campaign is fantastic opportunity to showcase not just the best of Ballycastle but also highlights the wonderful local businesses that operate across the Borough.”
