Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is delighted to announce that the business case for a further five years of funding for the 'Age Friendly' Initiative across Northern Ireland has been formally approved by the Public Health Agency.
This commitment from the Public Health Agency ensures the continuation and development of the Age Friendly Causeway programme for another five years, reinforcing a shared commitment to supporting older people to live well, stay connected, and remain active within their communities.
Working collaboratively with partners and local communities, the programme will continue to respond to the evolving needs of an ageing population across the Borough.
It also provides long-term stability to further embed age-friendly principles across council services, community planning structures, and wider partnership working.
Wendy McCullough, Head of Health, Wellbeing and Sport at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, welcomed the announcement: “This is a hugely positive step forward for Age Friendly Causeway and for older people across our Borough.
“Securing this funding provides the stability and confidence needed to continue growing and strengthening the programme.
"It allows us to deepen our work with communities and partners, ensuring that the voices of older people remain at the heart of decision-making.
"We are very grateful to the Public Health Agency for their continued support and commitment to creating an age-friendly region.”
Carrie Crossan, Health & Social Wellbeing Improvement Officer at the Public Health Agency, added: “The Public Health Agency is pleased to support the continuation of the Age Friendly Initiative in Causeway Coast and Glens.
"This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of older people and fostering communities where people can age well.
"We look forward to continuing to work in partnership to build on the excellent progress made to date.”
Over the next five years, Age Friendly Causeway will continue to work with partners to progress key priorities including reducing social isolation, promoting healthy ageing, improving access to services, and creating more inclusive and supportive environments for older residents.
This funding marks an important milestone and a strong vote of confidence in the impact and future direction of the Age Friendly Causeway programme.
