The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has hosted a special reception to congratulate the ten local recipients included in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
Councillor Oliver McMullan has praised the fantastic achievements of the group, saying: “To be recognised for contributions made to society is a remarkable accomplishment.”
Roslyn McMullan received an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to mental health and wellbeing in the dentistry profession in Northern Ireland.
Michael Dunlop MBE was appointed an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to motorcycle racing.
Professor Peter Flatt was also awarded an MBE for services to diabetes research, and Desmond Hill (Lately Clerk, County Londonderry Lieutenancy) was recognised with an MBE for services to the community in County Londonderry.
World War II Veteran Mr Norman Irwin received a BEM (Medallist of the Order of the British Empire) for services to the community in Coleraine, as did Heather Kelso, in acknowledgment of her work within early years education.
Also recognised with a BEM (Medallist of the Order of the British Empire) were Dr John Kerr, for services to the community in County Londonderry, Kathryn MacKenzie (Lately Chair, Triangle Housing Association) for services to social housing in Northern Ireland, Wesley McDowell (Chaplain, Northern Ireland Prison Service) for services to prisoners and their families in Northern Ireland and Christine McKeeman (Lately Unit Catering Supervisor, Straidbilly Primary School) for services to education in Northern Ireland.
The Mayor, Councillor McMullan added: “Congratulations to all the recipients for the work they have done within their various and wide-ranging sectors.
“Your personal contributions to each discipline have undoubtedly made a significant difference to others, and we are very fortunate to have people like yourselves as ambassadors for the Causeway Coast and Glens.”
