Medical Secretary Academy
The Medical Secretary Academy is a fully funded programme for people across the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough who want to start an administrative or secretarial career in the health sector. This includes opportunities in GP surgeries, private clinics, and local health trusts.
The programme is delivered by Elite Connected CEG Ltd and funded by the Causeway Coast and Glens Labour Market Partnership, supported by the Department for Communities.
What the Academy Includes:
Part One – Medical Administration Training
Training runs two mornings per week for four weeks (starting late February). Topics include medical administration, roles in healthcare, patient pathways, safeguarding and GDPR, medical terminology, communication and conflict management, business administration in surgeries, presentation and interview skills, and preparation for placement.
Part Two – Work Placement and Mentoring
Participants will complete a work placement with a local employer. Placements run up to four weeks, with the option to extend to eight weeks. Eligible candidates receive support through the Work Experience Programme (WEP). Additional support includes in‑placement mentoring, funding for Access NI and PPE, and travel or childcare costs for WEP participants.
Part Three – Job Interview Support
Participants will receive guidance and preparation for interviews with employers.
