Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens 2026/7 Councillor Dawn Huggins

Councillor Huggins represents the Bann DEA (DUP) and was first elected to Council in 2023.

Dawn was appointed Mayor in June 2026.



Dawns brings to the role of Mayor the same values that guided her through nearly 28 years of military service: duty, integrity, and commitment to the people she serves.

Her career in uniform has shaped her belief in teamwork, accountability and leading from the front – principles she is proud to carry into this role.

Dawn has been married to Shaun for 19 years and has one son.

As Dawn takes up her role as Mayor she does so with pride in our past, confidence in our present and ambition for our future and looks forward to working constructively to deliver for the people of Causeway Coast and Glens.

During her term as Mayor, Councillor Huggins has said: " I look forward to working constructively to deliver for the people of Causeway Coast and Glens."


Duties and Responsibilities of the Mayor

As Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Dawn Huggins has a number of duties and responsibilities, including:

  • presiding over Council Meetings.
  • promoting and raising awareness of the Council’s main objectives and priority issues.
  • encouraging and supporting all aspects of life in Causeway Coast and Glens by attending civic and public events.
  • receiving distinguished visitors to the Borough.
  • acting as host on behalf of the Council and the citizens of Causeway Coast and Glens at civic functions.
  • acting as a spokesperson to the local, national and international media.
  • providing an appropriate response on behalf of Causeway Coast and Glens at times of local, national and international catastrophe.
  • supporting and encouraging charitable and other appeals as appropriate.
  • promoting Causeway Coast and Glens business, commercial, cultural and social life.
  • promoting Causeway Coast and Glens as a place of excellence in which to live to do business and as a tourist destination.
