Issues identified in the 2025 monitoring audit (now resolved)
A Government Digital Service (GDS) monitoring audit (reference 2489-S-52) identified the following issues. All have now been fixed:
- a block in the site header was not correctly structured within a list, failing WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships) — fixed 7 July 2026
- the header search button had no accessible name, failing WCAG 2.2 success criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value) — fixed 7 July 2026
- keyboard focus could move to content hidden behind the open menu at 200% and 400% zoom, failing WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.11 (Focus Not Obscured) — fixed 7 July 2026
- the search placeholder text did not meet minimum contrast when focused, failing WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast (Minimum)) — fixed 7 July 2026
- the carousel slide-indicator dots had no visible keyboard focus, failing WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.7 (Focus Visible) — fixed 7 July 2026
- an image of text with a non-descriptive link on the Coast & Countryside page, failing WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.4.5 (Images of Text), 2.4.4 (Link Purpose) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value) — replaced with real, styled HTML text
- the ‘Annual Audit Letter 2024/25’ PDF was missing a document title and its cover heading did not meet minimum contrast, failing WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.4.2 (Page Titled) and 1.4.3 (Contrast (Minimum)) — corrected and re-published 7 July 2026
