The Mayor has joined with Council Officers and local businesses to celebrate the sporting heroes of Causeway Coast and Glens, in what has been hailed as another fantastic year for sport.

In September, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan officially opened the nominations for the Moore NI sponsored awards, and the judges spent hours perusing the many nominees across the 12 categories.

Friday 7th November saw the gala awards hosted by sports journalist Denise Watson in The Lodge Hotel, where the finalists from across Causeway Coast and Glens were recognised.

For the second year Moore NI joined Council as the Headline Sponsor for the event, showing their support for sport in Causeway Coast and Glens, with many other local businesses also sponsoring each of the categories.

The 2025 award for ‘Junior Sportsman of the Year’ was awarded to Sam Staats Howard, while The Lodge Hotel sponsored award for ‘Junior Sportswoman of the Year’ was jointly presented to Charlotte Kasparian and Ruby Caddoo.

‘Junior Team of the Year’ saw Limavady High School Rugby 1st XV take home the prize with ‘School of the Year’ sponsored by School PIX Limited, recognising joint winners Millburn Primary School and Coleraine Grammar School.

This year’s ‘Merit Award’ went to joint winners Kay Hack & Rosie Agnew, while Valerie Taggart took home the Go Succeed sponsored award for ‘Disability Sport’.

Atlantic Kayaks and Leisure sponsored this year’s award for ‘Coach of the Year’ with Gareth Scott taking home the accolade, while Michael Fleming was recognised in the ‘Services to Sport’ category sponsored by Age Friendly Causeway.

Showing just how fantastic the calibre of Sport is across Causeway Coast and Glens, many of the categories had such fantastic nominees that the award was jointly applied and ‘Senior Team of the Year’ saw both Jeff Scott & Jonathan Workman take the prize.

The Turley Legal sponsored category of ‘Sportswoman and Sportsman of the Year’ went to Niamh McConnell and William McCaw.

The ‘International Award’ went to local superstar Michael Dunlop MBE who last year also took home the award for ‘Sportsman of the Year’.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, who presented the awards said: “I was delighted to see so many our Council area’s sporting heroes and stars of the future recognised at this year’s Moore NI Causeway Coast and Glens Sports Awards.

“I think 2025 has really highlighted the talent we have in every corner of Causeway Coast and Glens. So many of the awards were so highly contested that the accolade went to joint winners – which from my perspective was lovely to see. I’d also like to mention Michael Dunlop MBE - ‘International Award’ winner who really is a shining star.

“Thank you once again to our headline sponsor Moore NI and also to the local businesses who sponsored each award, it shows that as a Council and a community we value our sportspeople and recognise the immeasurable effort they put into their chosen field.

“On behalf of Council, I would like to personally congratulate each of the winners and of course all nominees – we are extremely proud of all of you, and wish you continued success in your chosen sport.”
