Castle Community Group in Ballymoney hosted a special Luncheon Club on Tuesday 1st October to celebrate the launch of Positive Ageing Month 2025.
The month-long programme highlights the valuable contribution older people make to communities across Causeway Coast and Glens.
The event brought together members of the Luncheon Club along with guests from COAST, Causeway Age Concern, Building Communities Resource Centre and the Golden Oldies from Cloughmills.
Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, joined the celebration alongside community representatives and volunteers.
Mayor McMullan praised the group for their dedication saying: “Castle Community Group is a fine example of the wonderful work taking place across our borough to support older people. The Luncheon Club provides friendship, connection and care, and it was a privilege to join them for this Positive Ageing Month celebration.”
Council’s Age Friendly Coordinator, Stephanie Scott, reflected on the significance of the launch: “Positive Ageing Month, which runs throughout October, is about valuing the skills, experience and wisdom of older people, while creating opportunities for connection, wellbeing and inclusion. The Luncheon Club was the perfect setting to begin this year’s programme of events.”
Community Development Officer, Catherine Farrimond, also highlighted the work of volunteers: “This event showcased the dedication and generosity of local volunteers, who put in countless hours to support their communities. Castle Community Group demonstrates what can be achieved when people come together, and it was fantastic to see that spirit in action.”
The Luncheon Club celebration marked the official start of a month of activities across Causeway Coast and Glens designed to bring people together, promote wellbeing, and celebrate ageing in a positive and meaningful way.
