Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council warns of coronavirus complacency
Thu, November 19, 2020
Coronavirus complacency must not creep in, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has said.
Alderman Mark Fielding is calling for complete compliance to public health advice following an increase in COVID-19 cases in the area.
The Mayor said it’s imperative that people recognise the real risk which the pandemic continues to represent as we approach the Christmas period.
In a direct appeal to the entire community across the Borough, Alderman Fielding said: “The indiscriminate nature of coronavirus means it is a significant danger to all of us.
“The virus is spreading locally but we can counter this by adhering strictly to the public health advice. With the festive period just weeks away, now is the time to act with wisdom. One of the most important things we can do is limit our social contacts and ensure that households are not mixing indoors in private dwellings (in line with exemptions).
“Some restrictions will change this month, but this doesn’t mean we can act with indifference. Instead, we must fortify our efforts while we are out and about and keep safety in mind at all times. Our thoughts will now be turning to Christmas shopping, and I would urge you all to ‘shop local’ within the borough, and recognise the efforts of our business community who have worked hard to create safe and welcoming environments.”
“We are all missing our social freedoms but compliance can save lives. We must address growing infection levels now and realise the importance of adhering collectively to the health advice. Wearing a face mask, keeping your distance and washing hands regularly must be to the fore of everything we do.”
“After months of challenges and uncertainty, we are looking forward with some hope to the Christmas period but for now I’m urging you all to realise the potentially perilous situation we face and do everything you can in the weeks ahead to protect yourself, your family, friends and neighbours.”
