Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens hosts relaunch of Causeway NI Hospice Support Group

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, hosted the relaunch of the Causeway NI Hospice Support Group at Cloonavin.

The group has been active in Coleraine for over 40 years, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Northern Ireland Hospice and the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, both of which receive only partial government funding.

The relaunch event, held on Tuesday 24th March, celebrated the outstanding contribution of local volunteers and recognised the continued generosity of supporters who give their time and resources to both charities.

It also reflected the strong legacy of the Causeway Coast and Glens support group, the longest-serving hospice support group alongside NI Hospice itself, which has raised significant funds over the years, including more than £17,000 in the past year alone through community dedication and teamwork.

The evening marked an important new chapter with the relaunch of the Causeway NI Hospice Support Group, welcoming new members, volunteers, and supporters. It provided an opportunity to revitalise the group, strengthen community connections, and raise awareness of how hospice care supports local families during some of their most difficult times.

Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Oliver McMullan, whose chosen charity is the Children’s Hospice said: “I was delighted to sponsor the relaunch of the Causeway NI Hospice Support Group and to welcome its members to Cloonavin.

“I have experienced personal loss and have seen first-hand the invaluable support provided to my family by the Children’s Hospice. I cannot speak highly enough of the care, compassion, and professionalism shown by the staff during a very difficult time. Their support brought great comfort when it was needed most, and I remain deeply appreciative of the outstanding work they do.”

The evening was presented by Anne Marie McAleese, who led a Q&A session highlighting the wide range of care and services provided by the Northern Ireland Hospice and Children’s Hospice. Attendees also viewed a short film about the Hospice and heard from local residents who have experienced its care and support.

Guests were welcomed on arrival by students from Dominican College, Portstewart, and musical entertainment was provided by Sarah Minihan on keyboard.
