Welcoming Rathlin Island’s new ferry operator, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Councillor Ivor Wallace, said: “The initial news about the ending of the service caused great concern among those who rely on the ferry, especially because of the sudden nature of the announcement.

“It’s a welcome relief that a new operator is now in place, and I would like to offer my very best wishes to Dunaverty Limited as they prepare for their first sailings.

“The ferry provides a vital link between Rathlin Island and Ballycastle, and for many people, including school children, it is a part of their daily routines. Since becoming Mayor I’ve enjoyed two visits to the island and I know how important this connection is to those who live there or travel across on a regular basis.

“The island is an important and unique part of our Borough, and its continued sustainability and prosperity is dependent on its transport infrastructure.

“I am glad that the Department for Infrastructure has acted swiftly to secure a resolution, and I hope this will minimise any disruption to the island community.

“Council will take any necessary steps to ensure our service provision on the island continues until all of the scheduled sailings are fully operational again.”
